the unfurling of the orange fabric
Or, I guess the artist says the color is "saffron".
If we leave tonight we may get to Central Park just in time to see the (beginning of) unfurling of the fabric at "The Gates" on Saturday morning.

Joyce or Junior, if you make it to the park to see this, can you take some photos?! The photos I have seen online just look so cool, esp. the aerial views! I would like to print some out to frame and hang up in the house. I want to start photographing different public art and get information/history about the artist, etc, so when our relatives come to town we can give them a tour! haha. Really though, I want to start this project so if anyone has some ideas on where I should go first, let me know.

I dig art like you know.. and i totally respect your artistic taste joy, but when i saw a news piece regarding The Gates - at first I was like, "They're gonna ruin Central Park with THAT". I thought that it was permanent. But since it's only gonna be up for a week or two, I think it's cool. I like their umbrellas more than any of their others pieces.

Christo's Gates, in some peoples eyes, may have temporarily ruined Central Park... so what about the Somerville Gates?

And speaking of permanent... I wonder what they do with all those structures after the installation comes down? All of those umbrellas, all of those sheets and gates?! I'm sure they sell them. I read that they sell the drawings, drafts, writings, etc, that they have during the planning stages for each project to help fund that project or next projects. One of those gates would work out perfect for an Academy Awards party entrance! I want one.
But of their other installations, I like Valley Curtain:

That's all for now.
